Lydia Adams to receive Honorary Doctorate from Mount Allison University - April 17, 2003
TORONTO, ON - Amadeus Choir is please to announce that its Conductor and Artistic Director, Lydia Adams, has been selected by Mount Allison University to receive an Honorary Doctorate at its convocation ceremonies on May 12, 2003 in Sackville, NB. Each year the University selects outstanding Canadians to honour with this prestigious degree.
"Mount Allison is proud to recognize these individuals and to have them as part of the Mount Allison family," said University President, Mr. A. Wayne MacKay. "Their accomplishments in their respective fields of endeavour have earned them respect and admiration by their peers locally, regionally and nationally. We are both please and honoured to have them take part in our Convocation cemermonies."
At native of Glace Bay, NS Lydia Adams received her musical education at Mount Allison University and at the National Opera Studio and the Royal College of Music, both in London, England. Lydia Adams is in her 18th year as Conductor and Artistic Director of the Amadeus Choir with the 2002-2003 Season. In 1998, Ms. Adamas was appointed Conductor and Artistic Director of the Elmer Iseler Singers, Toronto's 20-voice professional choral ensemble. In 2002, Lydia Adams was awarded conductorship of the prestigiuos National Youth Choir.
Founded 28 years ago, the Amadeus Choir has become well known for its professionalism, exceptional musicality, and high-quality programming. The 115 auditioned memeber of hte choir perform a regular season in Toronto, including major choral works with instrumental ensembles or full orchestra. The Choir is grateful for funding received form the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Counciil and the City of Toronto,t hrough the Toronto Arts Council.
